Denying renewal requests
If the you receive a prescription renewal requestfrom your staff, and it is not appropriate for the patient, you can deny it. Only providers can deny prescription renewal requests.
If the patient must first make an appointment before receiving the renewal, instead of selecting the Deny option, mark the request with To Come In (see Indicating that patient must come in to receive medication renewal).
Steps
1. | Open the Prescriptions to be Reviewed window as described in Processing queued prescriptions and refill requests - provider workflow (new prescriber). |
2. | Select the prescription(s) to deny. |
3. | To deny without including a note, click Deny ![]() |
4. | To include a note on why you’re denying the prescription, click Deny ![]() |
5. | If the request was initiated by your staff, no further action is required. The EMR removes the prescription from your queued prescription list and notifies the queuing nurse or MOA that the queued prescription is Denied. The nurse/MOA now knows to NOT print the prescription and to inform the pharmacy or patient of the prescription denial. |
